As soon as the first shutdown ended I was approached by a client in Holland Park (a region in London near Sheppard’s Bush) to look at rebuilding some retaining walling that had partly collapsed. The wall was in the back garden and it had been constructed from leftover materials from the nextdoor church build it seems, slabs of limestone and old bricks! The church was built with quality stone around 160 years ago so the walls probably date back to then as it was originally part of their grounds.
The wall was retaining a terraced area with two levels. The higher level had a couple of badly damaged areas that needed rebuilding, but the rest was still holding up fairly well (at least for now).
After driving over to drop off tools and buckets I was able to cycle there and back each day, which was really nice for a change. The weather was really sunny and I needed a garden umbrella to shade me by midday.
The rebuild went well and took about 6 days. it was a bit odd at first putting back in so many bricks, but they did course well!
